Recently I have been getting lots of comments online (someone actually took the time to screenshot the definition of a Princess to send to me!) and it got me thinking that the word princess now means so much more than the daughter of a Monarch it has so many varied meanings and so many positive and negative connotations, the modern day Princess is different. Dad’s all over the world view themselves as kings, many believe their wives/partners are queens and their daughters little princesses. It is one of the many subjects that I have been examining for the book that I have been writing over the past few months. As part of this process I asked myself what *is* it that makes a Modern-Day Princess? Here are my top 5 tips to become a Modern-Day Princess: 1. What are you the Princess of? It doesn’t have to be a country, an area or a Kingdom. You could be the Princess of Horse Riding, Gymnastics, Kung Fu (I’m hoping this will be my daughter… but I won’t push!), Grammar (I already know one of these), Pain (she might be a Tomboy, but she is a princess nonetheless!) or anything else you are passionate about. You just find a “thing” that you “own” and rock that! 2. Work hard at what you do: There was a view that princesses do nothing but wave, drink tea, look pretty and wear tiara’s. Not any more young ladies! A modern Princess is an independent and hard-working girl. She’s not happy to JUST cruise through life - she wants to make a difference and make the world a better place. 3. Be open-minded: The world is a unique and cool place, there are many races, religions, opinions and all of them are valuable and worthwhile. Explore other cultures and understand that there are many ways to live and each of them is beautiful. Don’t make negative comments about others… it is beneath a Modern-Day Princess. 4. Follow your dreams: You can do absolutely anything that you put your mind to. If you can believe it, then you can achieve it! People may say “it is impossible” or “girls can’t do that” but it’s nonsense – don’t let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do, the world is there for you to live your dreams. 5. LOVE yourself: There is likely someone better at your “thing” than you are – don’t turn them into your enemy, you don’t have to compete. Why not learn from these people, talk to these people and help each other to learn and grow. Comparing yourself to others is the path to unhappiness… you are amazing and have different experiences to every other princess!
AND EAT CARBS! They are very tasty!
