About Us

“Not Just a Princess” is mainly about myself and my daughter kicking back and having fun! Over the first year of my daughter’s life I was working quite a lot and didn’t have as much time to spend with my little girl as I wanted. Now don’t get me wrong, I was there, I did all the doctor’s appointments and nurse’s visits, I drove them everywhere they needed to go, but the guilt about the amount of time I had to put into work and seeing my daughter mimic me on the phone was starting to get to me. Then one day I ended up having an unexpected emergency trip to see my own doctor which really opened my eyes to the fact that I had my priorities all wrong. So I started to look at my life choices and decided that I was going to dedicate this year to having fun with my amazing family.
The name for this little project of mine came from me continuously insisting that Jade was “Not Just a Princess” despite all of our family and friends telling me that she could be a baby model, or that she was like a little ballerina, or that she was going to break hearts! No one said she was going to win a Nobel Prize, or invent something amazing, or that she could be the President – and when I said she was going to be a Kung Fu Master or a Ninja, these ideas were dismissed out of hand. Although I’m not necessarily against the Princess genre, I do think that the stereotype we are unknowingly projecting onto young girls can be very damaging. There might not be hard evidence to back up this feeling but whoever she wants to be, I want my little girl to know I’ve got her back!
This is why I’ve decided to spend more time showing my beautiful daughter the way she should treat other people, how she should expect to be treated herself and that her life can truly be anything she wants it to be. I want her to know that there is no barrier that she can’t break down and I want to teach her that she should never put barriers in front of herself. I hope you will take the time to have a look through our posts and feel free to like/share or comment on anything that strikes a chord with you – I try to respond to everything… but if I don’t get back to you immediately there’s a chance that myself and my daughter might be out for High Tea, having a manicure or driving a tank – or possibly all of the above!!
